  • SBSD runs over 1000 Flock searches per day

    Flock network audit logs show San Bernardino sheriff’s department ran 371,306 searches last year, for an average of 1017 searches per day. The vast majority of those (226,837) had no reason provided, and many had a generic reason like ‘investigation’ or ‘surveillance’. Flock still continues to deny that this is a surveillance tool!

    None of these searches required a warrant, case number, or even probable cause. With vague reasons like this, it’s impossible to audit whether the system is being used appropriately and hold anyone accountable.

  • Contract extended into 2027?

    The city’s 2 year contract with Flock expires in December 2026. So why did Stone James say it’s been extended to Q2 2027? If Flock continues to collect data after the contract formally expires, this puts the city into a risky legal position, where they may be unable to enforce any of the terms like data sharing, security, and access controls.

    We already know Scott’s opinion: that the city should not discuss canceling the contract until it’s up for renewal. In other words — an excuse to do nothing and kick the can down the road for the next council to deal with.

    Why is the city manager allowed to delay renewal by 6 months without any discussion or input from council?

    I appreciate Ramirez’ motion to put a study session on a future agenda, and Scott’s second. But we have no idea when this might happen, and it could be delayed indefinitely, so the city needs more public pressure to prioritize this.

  • Flock used by ICE in Florida

    This is no surprise, but more evidence showing how ICE continues to use Flock data, without having a direct contract. Data from Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission shows law enforcement agencies from at least 6 states running immigration-related searches.

  • Yucca Valley’s Flock increases to 26

    On February 4, the SBSD Sheriff’s office filed a CEQA notice of exemption for the installation of 26 Flock camera locations. This is more than the 20 cameras approved by Town Council in September.
    The below maps show the new locations compared with the previous ones. The reason for this change was not mentioned in any of the recent council agendas.
